A note of clarification: this announcement concerns Day of Defeat: *SOURCE*. Alfred announced a very similar release for the original Day of Defeat product. This is a different release. Try not to get confused!

The server is a beta sever, and works with the client beta. We encourage all Day of Defeat server operators to help test this beta. We will be converting the game over to the new system within a few weeks. (So you might as well download the server now so you’ll be ready when the switchover happens.)

The existing HLDSUpdateTool dedicated server and the existing client are NOT affected. It is not necessary to download the SteamPipe version of the dedicated sever at this time to host clients who have not opted into the beta. We will give server operators a couple of days of advanced warning before we end the beta and switch the game over to be use SteamPipe as the official version. At that point, the HLDSUpdateTool version of the server will no longer be used; all sever operators must be using the SteamPipe version of the dedicated server.

Here is a general FAQ about Source engine games and SteamPipe. It answers many anticipated questions, including how to install the dedicated server and client beta:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...7388-QPFN-2491

We will be making a broader announcement of the client beta in a day or so after we confirm that some servers are up and operable.

The client beta is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Any questions not answered by the FAQ? Fire away.

Thanks for testing!
Strange how DoD and DoD:S started SteamPipe testing the same day.

I noticed Fletcher forgot to mention which AppId this is, so I've asked and am waiting for a response.

Did he say when we're getting the server update?

DoD:S SteamPipe / SteamCMD server is AppId 232290. This applies to both its Beta and final ID (TF2 has different beta and final AppIds; DoD:S doesn't).

Yes, I was.

Still, it seems weird that he'd announce a beta without giving the AppId in the announcement itself. The only reason I knew it is because someone updated the SteamCMD wiki page with the list of IDs from last week for the upcoming games.

I'm actually glad I created that table on the SteamCMD wiki page as now other people are updating it to keep it up to date. \o/ So much easier than trying to figure out the SteamCMD compatible servers from the main Steam AppId wiki page.

New DoD:S server / client just came out that fixed the mismatch I mentioned.

So far from testing, I get crashes that involve either getting or setting entity data on spawn.

For instance DoD:S Pistols (http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?p=642324) will create a crash onplayerspawn.

Like the current TF2 Beta, it will need a gamedata update. One will be ready when it goes live.

And for those who don't want to wait, I will be providing updated gamedata files for the beta until it is released. Please read and follow the instructions at the top of the files.

Currently, I have up-to-date game data files for CSS, DoDS, HL2DM and the TF2 Beta.

Current snapshots of MM: S 1.10 and SourceMod 1.5. Why, are you having troubles with a specific version?

Note that Metamod currently doesn't load plugins via VDFs; you must list SourceMod in metaplugins.ini. The devs say they have a fix ready and it will be committed once the beta test is over. (See previous posts in this thread.)
