I'm not too certain if this has been answered before, and I apologize if it has been, but I'd rather get a direct response for my question.

I run a server for TF2 and I'm looking for a new host.

I'm currently with clanforge, and I'm looking into a new server host provider, type thing. One that would be more reliable and allow me more control over the files for the server. I chose it because it was cheap, but it doesn't allow me to configure certain files for mods, or even place folders/create files.

But I don't know how I would go about doing that. I can't host one myself, because I don't know how and I don't think there are any data centers around my location for me to host one.

What would be a better host for my server or how could I go about hosting my server through my own means?

From what I've heard, nfoservers.com is good. I don't have any personal experience with them.

If you're willing to lay out $80 monthly, you can get a decent dedicated server. This is overkill if you're only running one server, but it has much more flexibility.

Well I manage servers for two groups, SimplyBrony and Keymod, Simplybrony is ran on privately owned servers and ran out of a shed (Pics), and Keymod is ran off NFOServers. There are pros and cons to both.

Privately Owned
Code:
++Pros++
1) Unlimited Space for both webservers and game serves.
2) Ability to run multiple game servers off one IP.
3) Ability to install what ever you want with out having
to worry about having to abide by a TOS that may limit your install rights.
--Cons--
1) Having to update your servers on your own (meaning that
if there is a new update and players can't connect till you
run/install said update).
2) Price for business class internet.
3) Little support help.
4) Having to setup your ports.
Company Owned
Code:
++Pros++
1) Instant setup (you can start playing right away).
2) Auto Updates.
3) Possible website may be provided.
4) 24/7 up-time.
5) Low cost
--Cons--
1) Limited disk space to install custom content (Maps and Game Modes).
2) TOS may limit what you may install onto your game server (HlxStats
is an additional fee and you may not install another Ranking system).
3) Only allowed 50 connections on the website at once (as far as I know
this is only for NFO).

I've actually heard that NFOservers isn't that great.

And I've previously stated I don't know how and am unable to host it myself.

You can also try out FragReady. I have one of their dedicated servers and I like it.

It would be helpful to know what country you are from and plan on hosting in.

EDIT:

Just looking at Clanforge it's hosted in the UK. If you plan on hosting there NFO and Fragready wont be able to help you.

If you have your own chassis UbiquityHosting is a great collocation facility in Manhattan New York.
I use them and have a 1U chassis collocated.

You can also rent servers from UbiquityServers

I used www.gameservers.com for about a year and a bit before we moved to www.killercreation.co.uk and got a dedicated from them. I had no issues with gameservers.com other than their support sometimes beimg a little slow. But others might of had worse.

+1 on nfo I have been using them for almost 2 years now. When you rent a server its yours, and u can change/add any files you want. Their support is also some of the best I've seen.
