We wish wish wish we could show the ads during load! Then no one would be upset. Unfortunately Valve has told us that due to the structure of the engine it's just not possible.

I passed on the buffer idea, but the feedback was that it wont work due to the way the ad serving infrastructure works. Valve has made some changes to the MOTD in the past few days, so we're still figuring out what to do there.

Stay tuned!
Well that got turned down fast. Too bad.

Good for you, nobody really cares if you like it dying off but glad you can afford to keep up a server or two on your own money tree.

It's disappointing to see that a Valve change effectively made Pinion broken.
Would have been better if it was left alone to allow 3rd party use.

People who join via Quickplay can close the ad immediately, bypassing the completion timer. This will kill most people's completion rates.

Yep...I'm hanging by the skin of my teeth at 60.26% for the month so far and nearly 6,000 impressions. If I fall below 60% I'm gonna be pissed cause its not my fault so Pinion needs to do something or go back to the original setup just pay out a little less IMO, I'd be happy with $1 per 1000 vs 1.50 the way it was and just let them all count.

On the 29th my completion rates dropped dramatically.

I made no changes to my servers

Pinion just sent this out.

Hi All,

As you've no doubt noticed Valve has recently made some changes to the way the MOTD
functions. These changes are by and large a good thing, as they stop rogue communities
abusing the system and turning players against the concept of ad sponsored servers.

At the same time though it has also effected the tools we provided to get completion rates up.

For now we're in a holding pattern whilst we talk to Valve. The timing is unfortunate as most
their team is currently away for the company retreat.

Rest assured that as always Pinion will do the right thing by you, the community in regards
to payments.

Stay tuned for further updates, and as always if you have any questions don't hesitate to
reach out to anyone from the Pinion team.

I wonder what 'holding pattern' means. I presume it means they're putting the completion rates policy on hold?

Holding pattern usually means that things will continue as is until they say otherwise.
