Are there any other companies that operate using similar models like Pinion?

CS:GO is unable to bring the motd panel back up.

Just wanted to share a little info with you guys. At the start of the month, like the rest of you probably noticed, the impressions went way down. I notified Pinion and they sent me a response saying some people might not have the correct Flash player installed or have HTML disabled. I don't know how to test for the Flash player, but I did have my friend Mitch make a simple logging script to see how many people have HTML disabled.

The Email:

This script was run over 4 days on both CS:S (6 servers) and TF2 (7 servers). Here are the results:

Why would people having HTML MOTDs disabled be counted as impressions in the first place? They'd never actually request the advertisement page from the Pinion server in the first place.

Good point, the only other way to check if flash is o is show them a hiddent page, say 2-3 minutes after they join a team, and using an flash application to check if it is disabled or not and save it into a database.

The plugin that forces HTML MOTD's to be enabled is one that really seems to stink up the minds of many SPUF, they just don't understand why some servers are like that for more reasons than just ads.

Not saying anyone should put that plugin on their servers (I wont be doing so) just giving some stats.

Also, has anyone experienced their game crashing when they join the server and see the Ad? I have experienced this on CS:S and TF2 and two of my other community owner friends have also had this happen. It doesn't happen to everyone all the time but randomly it will. I sent a ticket to Pinion but I would like to see if anyone else is having problems.

It happened to me once lately, but I haven't gotten any complaints from anyone.

I would suspect it's the flash player in the motd window, since there a bunch of errors after watching the video in my console.

What other reasons? The game engine falls back to the contents of motd_text.txt if HTML MOTDs are disabled.
