And !verify checks back based on... IP Address i assume? What if there are multiple users from one IP (eg a flat full of mates all want to play on your server)

to draw a diagram i assume it works like this

User inputs steamid ---> Steamid and IP get put into database ---> User enters server and types !verify ---> !verify looks up the steamid and IP on the server to see if it matches ---> If successful, the steamid is locked in.

The flaw i see in this system is that i cant see an advantage for the player to verify their steamid, apart from the admin having more control over it (assuming said user isnt and admin or in a special group)

IP isn't used because we found out is doesn't store every IP you log in on, only the one you registered on. So using IP is somewhat challenging without a special IP logging tool by phpBB.

Right now, this is the diagram:

User registers on Forums
User puts in SteamID into DB
User goes in server, types !verify
!verify looks for SteamID in Database
If there, it adds an entry to sm_admins

How will SourceBB handled bans for people who are not registered on the website/forum?

We are using the MySQL Bans plugin made by Naris and MoggieX to handle bans in the servers.

At this point, we probably will not include the feature of if your account holds a SteamID banned, that it will ban the forum member. The reason being so they can contest their ban in the forums.

My question about HOW it will handle bans for people that aren't registered forum users has still not been answered.

Will there be some sort of publicly viewable ban list? Will it be in the admin/moderator CP? How will this be handled?

Well we are providing the coding for displaying a public ban list, but it doesn't mean you need to use it. Using Naris/MoggieX's MySQL ban plugin, when you do sm_ban in game, it bans them from all the servers connected to the database storing the bans. We then made a tool to view the bans using a web tool. Click here to see this in some detail.

Would love to see something like this, Atm we just got a website which lists the links to various of our tools like sourcebans but this would be so much easier and nicer.
