i think once ppls are able to join your server it's ok, the server is listed !
If you can't see it ,try this :
Right click your CS (or hl) shortcut, Choose properties, you will see several fields, The first field should be 'target' .put your cursor at the very end of that line and enter +port 27018 make sure there is a space between +port 27018 and the original target line. It should look like this:
C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe +port 27018
The trick is to use a port for cstrike.exe different from the server one.
Or simply add you own server adress to your favorite list.

Also if you think the server is most of time empty : use some bots with a ping faker plugin.

Other thing : copy the entire game to another hd partition (it's good to backup the game) and when you need play/observe your server launche cstrike from that partition.

ummm. Have you ever thought of prot forwarding so that the server will show up when ppl look for it.

http://www.portforward.com look for the word Routers then find your router and its model # it will teach you how to portforward and let your server show up online

That was the first thing i did before making the server and thats what making atleast 2-3 of them joining......

what kind of version of cs1.6 did u use?

lunch your cs1.6 console and then press "~" and type "version"
it will show your console version..

update your hlds...to the latest one...using protocol 48
