As more and more plugins provide the ability for client specific settings, I think it would be nice if there would be some kind of api which those plugins could use to let a client choose it's settings. If a client says '!settings' or something, a menu-driven settings dialog would be displayed. Every plugin could extend this dialog with plugin specific settings and the settings-plugin would handle all saving/loading and such.

I think this would be a great advantage for plugin authors as they don't need to handle all this stuff on their own. And there would only be the need to display one line in chat to inform clients how to change settings and not one line per plugin.

Another terrific reason why this is 'needed' (aside from making things easier for the plugin creators) is so that clients don't need to remember a different command to change the state of each plugin.

One command (the command !settings seems perfect) would bring up a menu which will allow players to alter the various configurations for the various plugins on the server.

I think this is a great idea as well. The existing client preferences API would have to be extended quite a bit to support this.

This is planned for Core but I'm not sure if it's important enough for 1.0.0. Perhaps once we add client language support.

I agree with the original poster 110% - a client API plugin like this would be outstanding to have.
