Unless within the next year you will be upgrading to Vista, no.

What are the advantages of DX10, what games require DX10?
Newer GFX cards use DirectX 10. I think it'd be wise to get it, just for when games become incompatible with DX9 (i'll be f'd, mines a dx9 )

Is DX10 worth it? Of course. It's better than DX9. Is it worth upgrading now for a gamer? No.

Depends if you intend to buy another video card anytime soon.

Usually I would agree less hesitantly but at this rate with Microsoft, it's not looking to good for stopping companies from making games and programs backwards compatible. If you will only be playing DX9 games for over a year, go with a DX9 card but if you expect to downgrade ("upgrade" to vista ;-)) within that time, consider a DX10 card. However, everything will still work with XP in years so if you only want to play those games, nothing will stop you. There are so many if statements that I could pose, but with microsoft nothing is ever set, on-time or functional so I will stop even predicting.

I know - 1and1.com hosting not only sucks, lags, provides poor service but they are a fraudulent company making fraudulent charges to their customers and worse yet, they shut down your services for no reason and will not allow you to do anything as if to piss you off...

Presumably by assuming you have quality parts which are fully capable of achieving their potential not some off-brand setup, you would get incredible FPS. Take it from me, I've got AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ (2.8 Ghz dual-core), 2 GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM, 500 GB (2 hard drives, 1 SATA I, 1 IDE both 250), and an 8600GT and the card never hiccups even when left on for hours on end. You will average well over 100 FPS in CS 1.6 and over 100 in CS Source easily (developer mode on to get the absolute most - Vsync must always be off to even achieve 100 FPS for me at least - presumably for most/all).

I forget how to, but how do you turn on the FPS counter in CSS? (At work atm, so I can't actually go into my console and check random commands or my options menu)
