Sorry to burst your bubble...but it wouldnt do much at all.

Valve IGA is currently for Valve products only (the majority of the ads, that is), so not playing anything wouldn't really prove much. Not to mention that you have already paid for the game, so Valve already has your money. And since Valve doesn't run the gaming servers that you play on it wouldn't do anything at all to stick it to the man.

Now if you, say, made an actual FORMAL petition (read not one of those stupid Internet petitions) and gathered ACTUAL signatures from people who play the game and sent it to Gaben and the heads of IGA and so forth, you might get somewhere. Otherwise, you're just blowing smoke up your own asshole.

If you really want to apply pressure, you need to bitch to the companies that are advertising, like Intel. Not Valve. Email Intel and tell THEM that you ain't buyin' no freakin' Intel CPU or Intel chipset mobo until they stop putting their ads in your game.

Unfortunately this thread went offtopic.

I would take my servers down (better: set pw+change hostname to the "protest topic").

Why? Only for me. I could say myself: "I did something" ;).

If a lot of servers start using it, they might.
