Also not working on l4d2 anymore with the same message about signatures as above. I'm not really sure where to start with recompiling it at present, extensions are slightly out of my league.

there is no cleaner.cfg in my configs directory.. the way its mentioned in OP implies it'll be created and no mention of anyone needing to create it. whats wrong?

It's in cleaner.zip.

Yep it's not created automatically as that file contains the strings that you want to be blocked/suppressed.
