sounds like a server issue, not really a mybb issue. Need to ensure the MySQL server daemon is running and port you are choosing is correct (default is 3306).
For those looking at other forum software options here is my planned outline for other platforms
2. phpBB
3. FluxBB
4. SMF (Possibly if enough people ask for it and i feel it is used enough)
5. Wordpress
6. XenForo
7. IP.Board
8. vBulletin
The only issue with developing XenForo, IP.Board, and vBulletin is that they are all paid applications and as this is open source I am not making any money from it. I may start accepting donations if people actually find this idea useful and helpful.
I also want to point out that because it is open source I do it all in my spare time and I do have other projects that are higher priority between work as well other opensource projects that I am working on which would include a feature like this.
I am glad so far that people love this idea and that it is actually being used.
