hey guys, quick question, i know this isn't exactly amxx related but couldn't connect to steam powered forums for some reason. Can you do sv_downloadurl localhost ?
or
sv_downloadurl 127.0.0.1 ?
or maybe even another computer (not webserver)? And if i do, i don't need to know how to set it up, just wondering would it make a difference where i put the files or can i just create a folder on my computer called sv_downloadurl and put the maps/sounds/.res files in that?

no you can't. localhost and 127.0.0.1 are the same thing and it is a loopback.

sv_downloadurl 127.0.0.1 won't work. what ever computer your going to host the files for the maps and etc it has to be a webserver. So it has to be sv_downloadurl "http://www.domain.com/csfiles/"

Go look for a program called resgen. It will create your .res for you and put it in the right place. You just got to figure out how to use it.

You actually COULD probably if you got Apache working and such, I've never tried it and if it's an actual performance boost, but it's something to try.

I suggest a program called Appserv. Google it. It's a very simple installation, and it installs Apache, Mysql, Perl, and something else I can't think of. Read the read me and you should have a webserver up and running soon enough (you probably will have to forward some ports, I just disabled DMZ.) But I am not sure if you can do that, I wouldn't see why not though, as long as you have a web server on it. But without it, I don't think it would work, cause it wouldn't know where to look.

k, i'll test it now, thx for the fast response . Only one prob, lol, my server is ftp and this is an installer.....lol.....to options i'm given are to copy all installer files which i'm hoping never left the AppServ folder or to somehow redirect the server to my ip. lol. My other prob is i'm newb at this, lol, reading instructions on apache, lol, not sure how server knows where to look for files and how i "host" the files, lol.
