[L4D2] Switch between "public" and "friends only" in game.

not sure it its possible, but it would be awesome if it can be done.

In game it's always public. Friends only is just for the lobby. Once a lobby connects to a server it becomes public.

Incorrecto you are sir. In any L4D or L4D2 game, if you set it to friends only, and launch it without switching it back to public, the game will remain friends only. That means Only people on your or your in-game friends friends list will be able to join the game.

... or any group you are part of. this is how sometimes you can think a game is public when it isn't. a random person in one of the public groups that someone is part of can join the game.
