The title pretty much says it all but, is there any difference? Like do they both go in the plugins or does the .SP or .SMX go in different folders? Some plugins sometimes don't work totally correct when they have both a .SP and .SMX, so is there any difference?

A .sp file is a SourcePawn file, which is the source of the plugin... a .smx file is the plugin itself.

In most cases, you don't need the .sp file at all... Unless you want to edit/recompile the plugin yourself.

.smx files go into the /addons/sourcemod/plugins directory, and the .sp files go into the /addons/sourcemod/scripting directory.

The server itself NEVER needs the .sp file, it only needs the .smx file.
