I usually don't mock support that is given to me but sometimes stupidity runs so rampant, I can't help but make fun of it.

In this case, I e-mailed VALVe (Knowingly understanding they would be useless but hoping they could fix these problems), but I will do everyone a favor and not post the whole thing :-). Here is part of what I said as my issue concerned 64-bit Operating Systems and their respective paths to data. On 64-bit, the regular 32-bit application folder is Program Files (x86) for those who don't know. They do not use that though; they assume it's regular so I e-mailed them about fixing. I started by writing "I run Windows XP 64-bit edition" and here is their momentous response:

Hmm, I never knew XP == Vista?

Heh, I've seen worse forms of support elsewhere still XD.

Yeah, I've had much worse incidents as well but this just blew me away... to think they had about 5 days to respond and they came up with THIS? I responded with a very snide reply because I felt disrespected for receiving such poor support. Thankfully I can troubleshoot like no other so I fixed all my issues but I was just trying to alert them to the issue if they had not heard before. I even told them how to fix the problems but they are acting like the VALVe they are...

Then to end it off, Zachery (the tech support guy) responded now saying "Our games are not designed to run on 64 bits systems. Sorry."

Man if they never support 64-bit applications with the majority of their games, what the hell is the point of getting games from them as clearly we are leading into 64-bit operating systems and programs hopefully soon exclusively.

And it's yet again funny he says that their games don't support 64-bit apps when some of their games are in fact... 64-bit. It's their PLATFORM that doesn't support 64-bit and SOME games do not support it.

EDIT: if anyone would like to remind me why they would give bad karma to this post; is it because YOU are Zachery and don't provide knowledgeable support or some other reason?

I don't think that I've ever actually had an official team member help me out over there. They pretty much leave it up to the community.

PM knows how to receive great support from those at Valve as indicated by his past experiences with communicating via email XD.
