I'm interested in
AMD ATHLON 64 FX-74 SOCKET1207(125W)
AMD PHENOM 9700 QUAD-CORE 125 AM2+ 4MB
Almost same prices
Phenom 9700 won't be out for a couple months. It is looking quite promising though as it will have a new stepping (without the TLB bug) and with 4MB L3 cache, that in itself will be increasing performance significantly. Personally I am awaiting "Shanghai" processors (AMD as well obviously) which are to be released 2nd Half 08 as they will be on the 45nm tech and AMD has engineering samples that appear to be running smoothly; they are already going to be ramping up production soon.

You would waste your money getting a FX-74 because that is an older socket type, motherboards are quite pricey and more difficult to come by. You would be much better off getting a Phenom with the AM2+ socket along with a nice AM2+ board (Try to future proof as much as possible, if you can).

I kind of think doing this has AMD to stop innovating as much? Remeber when AMD was coming out with their opteron and 64 bit whatever that was because Intel wasn't as good and they were lagging behind.
Having this Anti-Trust stuff just motivates AMD less.
