He's very likely to own a S939 processor and so purchasing a new motherboard but keeping the same processor while tight on cash can only be a bad thing as there won't be any CPU upgrade options beyond what's currently available. You should consider continuing to save for either an AM2 motherboard or arguably the better choice, a S775 based solution. Do be aware that migrating to a more current socket version would render your DDR memory useless too.

Edit: while many have suggested AM2, nobody seems to have told you that your current processor will be unusable with this platform

Hmm I was looking online and there were a few 1.88 ghZ AMD processors with 3 difference socket types. Jshenka do you plan on upgrading the CPU? If not, what is the exact name of your CPU?

I base my decision on whoever has a more reliable processor out at that time... It's pointless to not get something better because you don't like the company.

just get a normal intel core duo 2 and if you make sure you get a good sli board you will be able to upgrade in the future to like intel core duo 2 ex quad...which costs like 900$ now, but anyways don't even think bout getting a amd quad or intel quad right now cuz i don't even know if there are programs support it
edit: hell hawk

How could "programs" not support the processor architecture AMD uses when Intel has built their 64-bit product line using AMD's aptly named AMD64?

He's saying that very few programs right now utilize all 4 cores efficiently. They aren't very multithreaded.

Well, that's fine, because I have DDR2 1024 MB of RAM
As for the processor, I know I will have to upgrade it.

I do plan on upgrading it, and I don't know the name, and I may not know for a while... As I recently left my house and told off my parents..
