Best Linux Version

hey, i was wondering since everyone says linux is much more stable and just overall performance is higher which linux version would be best to run for my hlds (i.e red hat, mandrake, lindows etc. etc.)

best = least demanding and best performance.... simplicity of operation doesnt matter...

yeah, thats probably it because ive read freom many reliable sources that linux works the best for hlds...

linux IS better than microsoft windows if you want pure cpu speed. if you want a personal pc, windows is best. (you can configure your windows to use very little cpu. Ex: Once youve got your server up, click end task on explorer.exe to save alot of memory. once your done, simply run "explorer" again.)

thats BS.... its easier to use and easier to make it restart when it crashes. It also has halfd which is an awesome tool. But overall it eats more CPU and mem because vavle never optimized it for linux very well.

so ur saying i should just stick with windows...? and if so whats the best windows to use? next to linux ive heard windows professional 2000 is best....

btw predator, how do u just turn explorer back on...?

you use the task manager (ctrl alt delete to access this)
go to applications and click "new task" , then type explorer and itll run
my comp really sucks so when i plan on gaming for a bit, i turn explorer off to get more cpu

if you are just making servers for fun to play on use windows, its way easier to deal with. If you are hosting servers for other people I would go with linux because its easier to manage multiple user acocunts and ftp and all that shit.

If you are going windows definetly get something in the NT line (2k, xp or 2k3) I myself woul use XP Home or Pro, w/e you got avaliable. Then turn off all the extra GUI crap to save resources.
