I like it the way it used to be, too many directories in there right now. Plugins in the plugins folder. modules.ini in the amx directory. And all the modules go into dlls

Keeping the files using the same structure will help people converting over. The new guys never read the docs and will assume things go like they had them

AMXmodX isnt going to be simply just a recompiled and slightly updated AMXmod. It is going to be the next generation, which allows it to step forward in design and overall look and feel. Small things like having "plugins.ini" in its respected folder WILL help people move from AMX to AMX-x with less trouble. "modules.ini" became part of this discussion due to it being in the somewhat empty folder amxx and not with its respected files and folder.

my thought of putting all the config files in the config folder, keep everything together, make it simple to find stuff. ex - if you want to change a configuration you go into the configuration folder.

That is true, but wouldnt you also like to go into one place and be able to do everything you need to that deals with that there? You wouldnt want to go some place for dinner and only be able to get some chips and salsa with drinks but no menu.
