In CS:S you used to be able to switch to Spectate from the chooseteam menu (M) while you were alive on a team. Now you have to be dead to be able to see the Spectate team option when you pull up the chooseteam menu. You can still issue the "spectate" command from console while you're alive and it will do the same thing, it just doesn't show on the chooseteam panel when you're alive.

Can someone point me to the cvar to change this or the changelog where this was removed?

What I remember, It shows "spectator" option awhile after round-freeze-end, then it disappear after few seconds.
Same time when players can spawn on field when round have started.

Right, it shows it while you're dead and during freezetime. Isn't there a way to make switching to spectator show after that time - while you're a live?
