Well when I asked Alfred about non steam blocking by Steam update he said Yes, its on the list. I suggested to make some changed in hlds and hl binary that all servers have to update in order to let steam players join. And complete removal of dproto.

Will it be done in near future ?. What say guys ?

It was already known that there would be a protocol update once the SteamPipe transitions are done.

Well, protocol update, that seems to be good one. So new protocol will be 49 ?

Dproto has many more features than just allowing non-steam clients.
Same to see it go.

Doesn't matter. It's not ever needed.

dproto exposes more exploits. steam binary is legitimate and safe. BTW don't talk about Non-Steam over here.

I posted this thread just to get opinions of people about Valve. Is they really going to start a new protocol and if Yes when. They have a bunch of games to be converted to Steampipe.

Depends on if Alfred's just talking about HL1 games, which I assume he is.

However, from memory... Day of Defeat and Team Fortress Classic haven't been converted yet.

If Alfred did mean all Valve games, we still have Half-Life 2: DeathMatch (in beta now), Day of Defeat: Source (in beta now, supposed to be converted next week), Counter-Strike: Source (in beta now), Team Fortress 2 (server in separate beta now, client beta to start soon), Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, and Alien Swarm in addition to those two.

On a side note, The HL1 and HL2 conversions are being done by different teams and it shows. HL1 games all seem to use app_id 90 with +app_set_config lines, while HL2 games each have their own app_id.
