if the servers are running under the same username you do for linux, the perms will be fine. if not, 775 with the user running your servers as in the same group. if you get me.

vsftpd is nice and esay for users. i was on pureftpd, but switched thanks to perms. you could always try chown as well.

Ok now i just screwed everything up on my old server. Can someone show me what CHMOD I need to use for the following folders?
left4dead2/addons/sourcemod
left4dead2/cfg/sourcemod

and all the configs in left4dead2/cfg/sourcemod are set to CHMOD 644.

after i install/reinstall, i only change rights for the downloadable stuff i add (maps, sounds) to 755; never needed to change rights to mm, sm, es or any other mods/plugins; try listing your plugins (after maybe a reinstall of server and plugins) with 'sm plugins list', could be that some aren't loaded; also check logs, maybe some give errors

@ade Your maps and sounds should be read only (444) not read write exec. Also yes by default you do not need to change permissions for it to work but he was asking how to correctly CHMOD the files.

I screwed up a bit and made everything 777 and the server went crazy lol. I set everything back to 755 and 644 for my configs and all is well. Only like 2 or 3 plugins that dont take now, so i just put the commands into sourcemod.cfg and all is well.

Ok ive tried tons of different CHMOD's for the folders and for files but having no luck. When the server restarts, all the plugins switch to default settings again. If I do sm plugins unload_all and sm plugins refresh, it works fine and uses all my custom settings. But every time it restarts I have to do this and its really a pain.

if you have plugins different than default, u should know they have their own cfg files. i think i had the same problem and i kept putting cvars in server.cfg or sourcemod.cfg when the plugin_x.cfg had the default settings and would always override them.
OR put your 2 lines in autoexec.cfg (the file executes at every restart)
id like ftp access to see what's really going on ah well

if 72.9.146.85:27017 is the IP, I suggest you change rcon, trim down sm (54 plugins and 12 extensions are A LOT) and fix the l4downtown extension. you can see for yourself if you type 'sm exts list':

<FAILED> file "left4downtown.ext.ext.so": /home/outfire12/service172/left4dead2/left4dead2/left4dead2/addons/sourcemod/extensions/left4downtown.ext.ext.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

https://www.tcwonline.org/showthread.php?p=1424647 someone else had your exact same problem; follow the thread or post in there, from skimming i see there's a problem if l4dtools is installed.
