Hi guys, new here. I've read most of the tutorials and found them very helpful. This thread, in particular, helped me create p_models for many guns and weapons that didn't have them.

However, when I tried creating a p_model for this model: http://www.gamebanana.com/skins/26292 , I hit a huge speed bump. Download it, decompile it, and you'll see why. No matter what I do, I can't get it to compile right. It's either "too many normals" (even though it's below the maximum allowed), or it says "illegal bone replacement" or something like that. I've tried everything and can't get it to work, so if anyone can help me out, it would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The problem with the high poly models is that some of them uses various UV's so, when compiling you'll have those errors and if you can compile it without cons. errors, it'll be too small/clip like hell. keep trying, you're doing it great.

I tried and tried. I spent 2 whole days trying it. I way too much of a noob at this. Can anyone do it for me? please?

EDIT: Okay, I think I figured out a way to explain my problem: Usually, when I go to make a p_model, even if the model is in separate smds, each smd is still ONE group, meaning I can easily add all the smds together, move it, then delete accordingly to make a new model. However, for that particular model, it's thousands of groups and materials for one smd, and even though I try to group them together, I, for some reason, can't export it. These smds are in C.S 1.6, so I know for sure that it isn't because poly count is too high. Every time I open an smd, I see a whole bunch of groups each taking up a small number of vertices. I have no clue what to do, so any help is appreciated.

dude, I had the same problem, read my posts in the second page of this thread.
I think that the difficulty is that there are too many .smd files using the same UV map.
I solved the problem after many months, and I'm too lazy to remember, but I used the buttons in the smoothing groups window.

ps. and about the nikonov, I still have problems with the sounds, I'll post it later (solved or not)

Still can't figure it out.

Looked at the smoothing group window and pressed a few things. Still doesn't work. Can you try to remember?

I solved the problem after a long reflexion, that's cause I don't have any tutorial about ms3d.
I'm too tired now, maybe some days later.
try to make the p_model of the nikonov to train (page 2)

I know how to make the p_models. I just have no clue on how to get the thousands of materials to group together. Get some rest, as this is a tough task. I just hope you can give me a tutorial.

well, do you know how to do it? If you can, can you please make the p_model? thanks. I can practice on the skin I downloaded because I already have it installed. Can't figure out anything and there doesn't seem to be anyone that can help me. I know you pointed me in the right direction, but I'm still lost.
