I saw that a long time ago too. If you had bothered to
read more about it you'll have realised that it works in a totally different way -
FTIR - and not "five cameras that can sense nearby objects mounted beneath the screen". In fact they actually criticize the way Microsoft approached this problem and so irrespective of whether Microsoft did indeed make advances in this field, they certainly did not copy what you posted.

Perceptive Pixel just last year and according to the first link some "very exciting updates" are coming soon.
As for the table itself.. it doesn't have many practical applications in the current computing world but who knows what the future may hold for graphical and human interface design.
