I wanted to write a plugin for Counter Strike Source and have asked around about how to do it but I I've got nothing after two after noons but quite a bit of frustration.

First of all, I apparently I need some Microsoft visual studio to do this, can I get this or some equivalent for free or some trial? If I can't forget it, I'll have to come back to this later.

I read somewhere on this forum about a free VS C++ Express compiler, search for it and see.

After that, if you download the SourceMM source code from http://www.sourcemm.net the package includes a stub and a sample folder.

The sample folder has a sample plugin, with some basic examples.

The stub folder contains a bare bones project ready for your changing.

MS Visual Studio 2005 beta is free for download and you can distribute the files you make with it.

Currently, you'd have a difficult time getting it working with the Valve SDK but the SDK should be updated for VS 2005 in the near future.

More info and a link to the download page can be found here.

Its not that hard to get working with the valve sdk.. well, I'm not sure about creating an entire mod with it.. but just what you need for plugins works.
