SourceMod 1.3, which is still in development, has just gotten a large feature addition intended for developers. We have added support for "logical entities," or entities which exist on the server but not the client, as well as an entity reference system to safely cache entities.

This required a huge amount of internal changes, so if you are feeling daring and would like to test - download a SourceMod 1.3 snapshot. Please report any bugs you encounter.

If you're one of the people who has been waiting forever for this - now's your chance to try it out!

So for us non-developers, what kinds of plugins will this sort of change allow for? Sounds like some really cool stuff could come from it.

You guys all do amazing work, so any changes like this always excite me!

sounds magical....watever it is. Is there some kind of explanation, perhaps in the source sdk docs with more info on what this will enable us to weave?

Logical Entities are just a sub-class of entities that previously couldn't be handled by SourceMod. Entities like 'logic_relay' and 'logic_timer' have always existed in the game but SourceMod was unable to create new ones like this, or control/change them.

The entity reference system is just a safer way to handle entities that prevent subtle bugs in your code.

omg we can control logic_relay etc in next sourcemod? I map as well and oh my that would be amazing.
