Just had two of what I think have been false positives in a L4D2 game. The guy reported by SMAC (in the middle of the game, map 2 of No Mercy, he's been around since the beginning of the game) was using a stationary mini-gun. I don't think he was a cheater since those two detections were the only ones in the whole game and they occured in quick succession. I don't think that it was due to lag either since none of us experienced any, pings were stable too around 25.

Yes, "paladin" is a sniper-rifle. I know what that player is not a cheater.
