Hi,

I have this problem again when everything worked correctly:

Quote:
Quote: L 06/24/2011 - 3:41:27 p.m.: [sourcebans.smx] Database failure: [2002]: Can not connect to local MySQL server-through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2). See FAQ: http://www.sourcebans.net/node/20
since June 10, 2011 this problem persists again

I have the latest snapshot of SourceMod and Metamod.

I understand nothing

Did you guys remember to backup your databases.cfg before updating sourcemod? You have to add the correct info back again, if you've overwritten all files while updating.

I did some modifications to sourcebans. The changes make the ban system much more resistant to players using alternate accounts. The primary purpose was to prevent scammers from going on different accounts and then rejoining trade servers, but I can also see how it would be useful on non-trading servers to keep out people who are banned and then rejoin on free-to-play TF2 accounts.

If a player joins and his IP is banned, it will check his current Steam ID. If his Steam ID is also banned, it does nothing. If his Steam ID is not banned, it will add a new ban entry with that Steam ID.
If a player joins and his Steam ID is banned, it will check his current IP. If that isn't yet banned, it will make a new ban entry with that IP address.

I have run this modified version of the plugin on my server for 2 days, and it has already caught new 11 IP addresses and 3 Steam ID's (as of this post) of people who were banned and tried to join on alternate accounts. You can see the new bans show up from the admin "CONSOLE" here: http://unusualhatclub.com/bans/index.php?p=banlist

The modification also makes it so that if a ban has an IP and a Steam ID, it will check BOTH against each player that joins. I had originally though sourcebans did this, but upon looking at the code, I saw that it only checks IP of the ban if the ban type is set to IP address.

I think that sourcebans should have a feature like this built in and I think that it should check IP's of bans in addition to Steam ID's. Turning this into a built-in feature to sourcebans would probably require some database modifications to allow multiple bans to be "linked" together or to allow single ban entries to contain multiple Steam ID's or IP addresses.

If you want to look over the code, I surrounded my code with:
//Start Invader Amoto's Edit 1
and
//End Invader Amoto's Edit 1
There are two sections of code that I modified, labeled 1 and 2.

I hope some people find these changes useful.

EDIT: Right as I posted this, I was informed that it is applying permanent bans to every alt account that it finds, even if the ban length wasn't originally permanent. I'll see if I can get that fixed.

Interesting. I thought it did IP Checking as well. To bad I don't run a server any more to try it out.

It only checks the IP if the ban is set to IP address mode, in which case it ignores the Steam ID. And you can't do an IP mode ban from within the server. You can only do it from the web panel, afaik.

Fuck that

Sounds a bit extreme. I know lots of families that have various accounts on various pc's so just because one member of the family or LAN screws up everyone s penalized.
I suppose a few resets of the Modem could avoid all that.
Awesome

I agree that it can be extreme. But if it's added as a feature it would have a toggle. Or so I would hope...

But Evasion banning is something to take seriously though. There's a reason why that person was banned.
