if you put this in your file it will work:

GameBin |gameinfo_path|addons/metamod/bin.
Game |gameinfo_path|.
Game cstrike
Game hl2

then go to properties of the gameinfo.txt file and set it only to read.

start your server and it wil work

Ok, i want to use metamod mm on my source dedicated server..
I followed the installation guide of metamod: source..
I did all of that correctly, made the bin folder in the metamod map etc..
The point is: it doesnt work! how I know it: I start my dedicated server, type "meta" and voila: unknown command.....
I searched youre forum for the solution didnt found it.. I tried the gameinfo.txt thingie.... and,,,, O WELL! i tried EVERYTHING!

For sceptics: heres ( a part) of my gameinfo thing
Code:
		SearchPaths
		{
			GameBin |gameinfo_path|addons/metamod/bin.
                        Game |gameinfo_path|.
                        Game cstrike
                        Game hl2
		}
	}
}
And yes! I set it to read-only..

Ok, ive been thinking... the gameinfo.txt is ok.. so the problem should be somewhere else.. I downloaded sourcemm from their website.
I got the file sourcemm_win32.
I put the server.dll file in this folder..-->
"[email protected]\source dedicated server\Addons\Metamod\bin"
In the "addons" folder i made the metaplugins.ini file, and i edited the gameinfo.txt..

It should be working.. But unfortunately it doesnt.. Any1 see's what on earth im doing wrong here?!

iwe tested to see if it was just a user problem but it dosnt work, and the "period ( dot ) " has no effect even if its removed.

NOTE that this is tested with the Steam Source Dedicated Server from the Steam GUI ( not the "real" dedicated server that you get with the hldsupdatetool )

got it working, no . behind the " bind " is necesery. ( and it was skillz from the forum that posted this in another thread )

SteamAppId 240 // This will mount all the GCFs we need (240=CS:S, 220=HL2).
ToolsAppId 211 // Tools will load this (ie: source SDK caches) to get things like materials\debug, materials\editor, etc.

//
// The code that loads this file automatically does a few things here:
//
// 1. For each "Game" search path, it adds a "GameBin" path, in <dir>\bin
// 2. For each "Game" search path, it adds another "Game" path in front of it with _<langage> at the end.
// For example: c:\hl2\cstrike on a french machine would get a c:\hl2\cstrike_french path added to it.
// 3. For the first "Game" search path, it adds a search path called "MOD".
// 4. For the first "Game" search path, it adds a search path called "DEFAULT_WRITE_PATH".
//

//
// Search paths are relative to the base directory, which is where hl2.exe is found.
//
// |gameinfo_path| points at the directory where gameinfo.txt is.
// We always want to mount that directory relative to gameinfo.txt, so
// people can mount stuff in c:\mymod, and the main game resources are in
// someplace like c:\program files\valve\steam\steamapps\<username>\half-life 2.
//
SearchPaths
{
GameBin |gameinfo_path|addons/metamod/bin
Game |gameinfo_path|.
Game cstrike
Game hl2
}
}
}
and now make it read-only. ( right click -> properties -> check the "read-only" box -> click ok )

because if you dont Steam will replace it with a original file.
and the dot wont help you, even if you dont set the txt file to read-only it will jsut get replaced.

Does this read-only thing affect Linux Servers?

If so, when is it overwritten? Just as the server is starting?

Cheers.
