Question: If I'm running a server from my home, do I need to worry about security risks? I am giving out my IP to people around the world, shouldn't this be ran under precautions?

Just curious

Yeah, that's a risk that you're going to have to take when hosting a server on your home network.

normally at home u are using nat (that means: network behind the router isn't accessible). just forward needed ports to your game-pc... no more is needed. rest is same like dedicated servers, i.e. limit connections to port, etc...

well, my only concern is that people can "find" you with the IP. I know the odds of that happening are very minimal, but that would be very creepy if someone were to walk up to your door and say, "i like your server."

^Even though this is almost never going to happen to anyone in their life...

...people get struck by lightning

Idk, I'm just having that "what if" moment.

So all in all i shouldnt worry. I already told my group imma take a break from the server running, but if I started again, I should be fine.

I even tried finding my IP on a locator site, and it showed just a giant circle "close" to where I live.

It is not possible to find someones exact location with an IP Address without ISP cooperation. Your concerns are 100% paranoia. Concerns you WILL however will want to have is Possible Denial Of Service attacks or complaints that your server lags.

It's also very likely that you will exceed your bandwidth cap.
