Hello everybody.
I use Gentoo linux operating system for srcds. We are having a few lag issues with it so i want to try to use another operating system to see if it fixes it.
Basically here are the specs:
Processor: Intel xeon e3-1270 @ 3.4 ghz
Ram: 16 gigabytes
Connections: 1 gbit
Server slots: 55
Server gamemode: Zombie Escape
We get timeout lags on certain maps(no other servers do it).
So what is the best operating system to use for linux on srcds that has the best performance?
CentoOS, Ubuntu, Debian? Any others?
Also 32 bit or 64 bit?
Thanks,
Gamemann

I use CentOS and I haven't had any problems.

You'll want a 64-bit version if you have more than 4 GB of RAM, but you will run into some problems most likely.

Best one? FreeBSD because it can minimize effects of interrupts, hence why companies like Multiplay and companies like it use it.

Stick with Gentoo. I doubt it's the OS that's causing the lag on certain maps. If you really want to switch, go with CentOS or Ubuntu.

Well just a update:
I tested it on windows 2k8 and it worked.
Trying centos now.
Thing is it might be NFO'S kernel, but not sure.
I am not really the best at linux but my friend is.
Thanks,
Gamemann

Are any of you guys experiencing crashes with Linux? I get crashes in a few hours after I enable bots.

I think Ubuntu Server is the best.
You may have lag due to plugins or extensions.
