If you want to establish a static local ip address so you can forward ports, that shouldn't be a problem, Zenith's advice looks like it could help.

If you want to establish a static "outside" ip address, you can try using no-ip.com. For example, if you want to give a friend the ip of your server, you can give the hostname.ending instead of checking your ip and giving that.

I don't know why everyone is complaining about wireless sucking. Of course, it does, but once you get connected, it's normally alright.

I've been running a server on wireless for 3 years now, and I've only had problems when the router itself went bad or the card that the server was running on got screwed up (which happened once).

What I meant is that it's a pain in the ass to get a network going, but once it's set up they're generally pretty stable.

Oh well i've tried both and found wired faster, but a lot of people wouldn't tell the difference I would think.
