This has been solved by Marttt. They made a plugin that automatically makes you an admin on listen servers.
Still don't know why I can't be an admin without it, though.

First of all, sorry if this is the wrong place. I didn't know where else to put this.

Anyway,
I've been trying for well over a year by this point to set myself as a SourceMod admin in Left 4 Dead 2. Nothing has worked.
I've tried doing many different searches, and I could never figure it out.
And the strange thing is, I figured out how to set myself as an admin in Team Fortress 2. Even if I copy my working admins.cfg and admins_simple.ini from Team Fortress 2 over to Left 4 Dead 2, it still doesn't work.
Every time I type in sm_who it says "none", and not "root".
And yes, I did try sm_reloadadmins. Many different times.
Absolutely nothing has worked for me. And it doesn't help that I could barely find anything online about setting yourself up as an admin for SourceMod. I literally had to figure it out myself.
Seriously, what's with the lack of documentation?

Also, since we're on the topic of setting myself as an admin, would it be possible to do this for bots too? Their IDs are just "BOT", but every time I tried to put that in (in both TF2 and L4D2), it never worked.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Dedicated or Local server?

Did you set your steamid in "admin_simple.ini" or "admins.cfg"?

Local/listen server. Usually started by typing "map <mapname>" into the console.
In the case of Team Fortress 2, I mostly use the "Create Server" menu option.

No offense, but you clearly did not read my entire post.
I already said that I have a working version of admins.cfg and admins_simple.ini for Team Fortress 2. I am an admin in that game ("root"). When I took my working files and placed them in my SourceMod installation in Left 4 Dead 2, it didn't work. Nor did many other things I tried. It just won't let me be an admin in L4D2, but TF2 works just fine.

Again, I have been at this for at least a year by now, and I've gotten nowhere in that amount of time. I can only be an admin in TF2, and L4D2 refuses to work for whatever reason.

Oh by the way, sm_admin doesn't work for me. I have to type /admin or !admin in the chat for it to work.
It just tells me "[SM] This command can only be used in-game." every single time. In both TF2 and L4D2.
So either I'm doing something wrong, or the official documentation is wrong or outdated.

Sorry for asking basic information to try to help you bro,
you have written a lot of information so it was really hard to read and remember all stuff,
sometimes is just better to be short and clear.

anyway will be the last time that I will reply in this post indeed.

First, if you are running a listen server you have to start it with "-insecure" parameter in the game launcher.

To sourcemod run in L4D2 with listen server you have to
1) create a lobby and set "Local server"
or
2) create a map with "map <mapname>" as you already mentioned.

Also, if you are typing sm_admin in console, it won't work cause for listen server when you type in console, sourcemod read you as a "client index 0", but if you type in chat it will works cause client index is from the sender.

You can try installing my plugin [ANY] Console Cmd As Host (Listen Server Only) that may help you to use commands from console in a listen server.

Alright, ok, maybe I am a little harsh in the way that I word my posts, but I'm certainly not trying to be.

I thought that was a small amount of information, especially in comparison to my previous posts. I was trying to keep it short because I knew people would skip over it. I guess I just can't rely on people to not skip over short posts.
I like to put in lots of detail because detail is important. Without enough detail, you could easily get lost. Which has happened to me numerous times in the past.

I do everything that you typed on a daily basis. -insecure, map <mapname>, whatever. None of it lets me be an admin in L4D2. I don't use lobbies because I find it to be easier to use "map <mapname>" instead.

Thank you for the clarification on why sm_admin doesn't work, though.
As far as I can remember, I never got a definitive answer for that.
As time goes on, I believe more and more that Google's just a load of garbage and doesn't understand what I'm searching most of the time.

Is it safe to be giving out your SteamID?
Or is it no different than some random person coming across your Steam profile?

As I have already stated, I copied my admins_simple.ini from Team Fortress 2 to Left 4 Dead 2.
It works just fine in TF2. I am an admin with the "root" permission.
When I copy it to Left 4 Dead 2, nothing happens. It still says I have the "none" permission.
Sorry if that's bad grammar. I don't know how else to word this.

Just for clarification, my admins.cfg is completely blank in TF2. I use admins_simple.ini.
