Is it not possible to hook CHalfLifeMultiplay::FPlayerCanRespawn and force a different return value?

Sure, what said Joropito above (#6) ; but the point was to do it without the use of Orpheu/Rage.

At PreThink of the joining player, rename ALL "player" classname to a fake name
At PostThink of the joining player, put back the original classnames

Good trick too.
For people who don't understand, CountTeamPlayers() counts players by searching "player" entity.
That's why, if you rename to another classname, the count will be 0, and the 2 first checks can be valid.

There is no real advantages to use orpheu here.

Would be great to use Rage, the bad thing, is that not everybody knows about module coding for making handlers, and there are like only 2 handlers on the forum.

But stop with the offtopic, the method is great, but I used Orpheu instead for hooking FPlayerCanRespawn.

But with FPlayerCanRespawn, at least on death (dunno on first join), if player is holding a key he is put in spectator mode, so whatever the method used, depending on your needs it's better to force players to (re)spawn.
