@Suzu: Yes the post is redundant. But see, this is not common knowledge, and the effort of the post is to spread knowledge, and also to comment upon an accidental finding.

@Pixie: I retract my previous post's statement. Apologies.

So far as I have learned, is that if you mod your iPhone, they wont disable it or anything, but if it gets bricked they won't replace it.

If the piece of hardware itself gets bricked, you can reflash the firmware. It's pretty easy and takes about 10 minutes. I bricked my iPod Touch about 4 times before getting exactly the way I want.

Reheally? Hmm, its technically against the TOA/EULA but I'm not doing anything illegal it is just modifying existing files on there to make a more pleasant experience and add features such at SSL. If it gets bricked, reflace the firmware, only problem is if I have to run it through itunes again to get it working, or if the sim will automatically pick up that the firmware has been renewed and still work. THAT is the question.
What happens to an iPhone after it gets bricked and gets reflashed. Do you lose your contacts? Do you lose your settings? Songs/Videos?

Anything that's stored in iTunes/SIM card will be restored when you resync it. However, I can't tell you whether the SIM card would brick if it detected modded firmware.
