Okay, so I'm using Jed's half life model viewer.

Photoshop a new skin, use other tools to get the format I need.

Apply the new skin in JHMV and then save the new model..

Anything I'm missing here?

do I have to decompile the model? and then recompile it?

no... i but i reccommend it...
oh... and its better to use milkshape to make your own models...
