Has anyone tried re-enabling this functionality you want?

1) You have full access to server code and memory
2) You can modify this code and memory values at any time fairly easily using sourcemod

In my experience, when a company does something to block "homebrew" uses, you just find a way around. Show them they can't stop you from doing it, and eventually they give up on trying--and/or realize the error in their ways.

Of course it's been tried. This filtering is done clientside.
However there are a few limited loopholes, such as the one voogru uses in his patch.
C_BaseAttributableItem::ValidateEntityAttache dToPlayer(void) is the function in question, there is another one somewhere else as well, in C_BaseEntity I think.
