I don't know how you guys maintain your code, but I like to use revision control.
Personally I use SubVersion, hosted on my secondary computer. As I travel a bit at work, I would like to have my repository available wherever I am, so I googled for free subversion hosts. Here's what I found:
Free with issue tracking. Limited to 15 MB.
Looks very good, however they have issues with Trac, the issue tracker, so it's currently not working.
Another not-currently-working subversion host with Trac support.
The design on their page is crappy, which probably mean that the service is good, hehe.
Other hosts that require you to have Open Source (visible for all) areThere are probably loads more. I'm very interested in finding a good free host with Trac that I can keep private and without file size limitations.

I use darcs, which is distributed. I have repositories on my laptop, which go with me wherever I go, and official repositories that I push patches to. There's no main server/client relationship in darcs. You just have repositories.

If you're on one machine when traveling, that'd work fine. If you're constantly on different machines, well, then that probably won't work for you.

We use subversion although it's very limited, especially for tagging/branching.

I keep all of my local development code and tools on a portable 2.5" USB-powered hard drive.
