Yay, valve has published counter strike 1.6 (beta versio).
I just tested it and it and it felt good

Do you think there is coming any updates to gameservers due this?

If you're unlucky, Valve will rename all the Linux server binary libraries.

You know, like they did for some of the Source games, such as Team Fortress 2.

How is this relevant?

Yes, how would Valve updating the gameservers of a Valve game engine when they ported the client to Linux be relevant to someone asking if there would be updates to the gameservers of a Valve game engine when they ported the client to Linux?

Porting a client application to another OS does not affect the server at all since it is still CS 1.6 it has to work with all existing CS 1.6 servers.

Except with Source it did, because Valve made the inexplicable reason to rename all the server libraries to have _srv in the name.

Renaming all files to have _srv in their name doesn't mean it has a different version than the Windows version. I bet the game engine and the game itself both have the same version number.

But did that have anything to do with porting to another OS?

Yes, they did it due to Linux symbol loading conflicts.

To access the beta please follow the steamcmd instructions on our developer wiki, https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD, Counter-Strike 1.6 dedicated server is currently available as appid 90 (and will continue to use this appid after full release).

The changes in this version are numerous (and some fixes are still in progress, I am looking at you redirect servers....). Under Linux we have moved forward to GCC 4.6 (from 2.95, heh) and are using a newer OS toolchain, so please do test these binaries on your machine.

Does that answer your question?
