L4D2 scores are counted (as far as I know) by each enemy team member you kill in-game. I've never been into the scripting / coding part of Source modding, but I wonder if there is a plugin (searched, found nothing particular) that displays a popup that constantly updates with your current score via the existing HUD or as a separate popup.
