I've only tested it with css and tf2 so far.

Are you on linux? Check the core dump for the stack trace. If you don't know how to do it, check out Accelerator! That will give more insight even on windows ;)

This sounds like a fairly common crasher in the SQL extension. There's--I think--two issues at play: losing your connection to the database server may potentially lead to a deadlock in the query processing code, and reloading some plugins that make use of SQL natives will lead to a crash.
