Hey everybody, i guess most of members here know the "Oculus Rift" here.

I would like to know if you already played with ? How is it ?
If not, would you buy it ?

I thought about buy it but since it's still in development it's not a good idea, another version could appear some months after.

The actual price is $350, it seems good for what it is, what do you think ?

And also i would like to know your feelings about it.

I can't wait it to be out of beta state and play to horror games, it must be really surprising .. But it's kind of scary, let's say it's a good way to loose your mind.

Here is a small video about it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5jG1mmVKtM

-----

Apparently, Facebook just bought Oculus VR for $2 000 000 000 , i don't know what is going on.

Facebook said they want to "reinvent the way people communicate" then i guess it will be about see each others in the Oculus Rift (all people registered to Facebook). This is scary lol

What's the percent of eye damage after using "Oculus Rift"?
How can someone test that thing, what if something happens while using it?

I tried it once at gamescom last year, you can take it for a while, but many people get motion sickness after about 45 minutes.
I will test it this year again.

How was it ? Is it really surprising ? I heard about the motion sickness, it looks like it's gone with the new version (because they used OLED now), or it rarely happens.

Quote:
The most common scientific theory behind motion sickness is that the body assumes it is poisoned and hallucinating, and responds by vomiting to void the perceived toxin.

Simulation sickness is similar to motion sickness, except the opposite—your brain thinks you’re moving, while body senses everything is still. The eyes see motion but the inner ear feels nothing. It’s motion sickness in reverse, but the side effects are often exactly the same.

From LCD To Low Persistence OLED

To fix the "simulation sickness" problem, Oculus had to come up with a way to keep your eyes from perceiving erratic motion, even though the movement of one's head is what causes movement in the Oculus Rift. So far, the solution has been to switch out the hardware of the visual display.

In the original DevKit 1, the Oculus Rift used LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) technology to display visuals. LCD screens can be advantageous since they're bright, produce zero geometric distortion and consume little electricity. On the other hand, LCD is a particularly bad match for virtual reality for one reason: Motion response time is sluggish. In fact, display motion blur is so synonymous with LCD that it’s sometimes called LCD motion blur.

Yes, at the moment the preorder is for developers only since it's not released yet but you can still buy it and play a LOT of games which are on their forums if i'm not wrong.

I'm trying my hardest to hold off for CV1, I think there will be a huge jump in the quality of the experience (not to mention that DK2 is too late for the money FB brought to the table).
