As prices of SSD have really dropped significantly over the months, the question comes by whether upgrading to a SSD is worth the cost. For the general usage of srcds, will it really help in maintaining sv and var values or have a significant boost? If for example I'm using WD black hard drives right now which are pretty decent.

The question is are you happy with the performance you have now? If you are the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it" SSDs have their advantages more so for I/O but it more depends on the CPU you have more than anything to maintain sv/var. A good network helps too.

I just run several servers, database and fastdl server. However my 128tick 18 slot dm server would sometimes suffer from varying var values and yellow sv. Connection is fine as I have a gbps connection.

Split it up.

Do NOT run web sites (including "fastdl") on the same physical machine as you do run your game servers on.

Unfortunately, many people think the speed (or the "advertised" speed) automatically means it is a good network.

It doesn't. A 10 Mbit can theoretically be a lot better than 1000 Mbit.

The advertised "speed" is not the only key to a good network. It is the key to what speed you may be able to achieve, but a high (advertised) speed doesn't (always) mean that it is a good network / connection.

SSD are quite fast, but shorter lifetime and get broken more easily (lightning, power off)
My opinion...

How is that? What's the reason that I should split up websites and fastdl?
yeah my network is fine just as advertised (~50mbps variance around 930-950mbps even at peak times)

I think SSD's now have more read/write than HDD now as advertised by Intel DC grade SSDs

If you read my text again, I didn't say split up "websites and fastdl", I said "websites (including "fastdl")".

Your fastdl is theoretically just downloading from a website. Everything in relation to "web server"-related things should just not be on the same physical server as your game servers.

If someone was smashing a hammer through your head, you would probably have quite a bit of a headache and several other issues in regards to focussing on things.

Imagine the same thing happening to your physical server; when your player's clients are hammering down your ("fastdl") web server, your server will have problems focussing on the resources that the game server requires, thus leading you into problems.

It gets even more funny if you run HLX:CE on the same machine too..
Had a load avg of 100+ quite often (now moved to gameMe).
