I'm just trying to understand the context. I mean, it doesn't seem clear who's secrets are being grabbed. I can say if it's the husbands and he's trying to beat the crap out of some other dude, then it's not going to help him much. She probably deserves it then. ;)

Actually the OT is meant to be taken literally at least when dealing with laws and such, because that is what a lot of the Old Testament is. It's the NT that is largely metaphoric.
