I don't recall ever logging in to use SteamCMD to download Counter-Strike 1.6 or Day of Defeat 1.3. Also, I'm quite sure that I've done it all from a single command line command. Though, I did have to run it multiple times to get all the files (which is a known issue if it hasn't been fixed yet).

However, I tried it just now and I was only able to do it by logging in unfortunately. I did this by manually typing all commands into the SteamCMD console. I suspect that if you're comfortable with your password being in a file or in your command history, you could do it from the command line.

This was discussed on Discord a while ago.
It seems that the Linux version of CS1.6 can no longer be downloaded by Anonymous and requires a login.
(The Windows version can be downloaded by Anonymous with no problem.)

I guess its impractical for gameservers to utilize high fps these days, particularly when game hosts want to keep cpu load down. :sadge:

best way is to download via steamcmd, but you often need multiple runs to get the whole package.
when you're on linux you can downlad archives from this this repo, but i dont know if these files are 'untouched'. did a quick check and some *.so are different compared to the steamcmd installation.
