Here is where it all started.

Scroll down to tf2. They do advertise that they dont charge xtra for 100 tick. But as this thread suggest there is no 100 tick.

Why don't you just change the sv_maxrate ?

I do, however, I want to also lower it to lower cpu usage.

You should try running without the fps boost and see what you think

Full 32-man server = about 4-5% CPU

maybe on a multicore system

a full 32 man tf2 server will use upwards of 80% of a processor core. curse source not being fully multithreaded

But do you run the fpsboost? The 4-5% is percent of one core usage

what is the cpu?

You sure that number is correct?

What you reading that % from?

no fps boost, same % core usage at 100 fps as 1000 fps

Yep I'm sure it's what I'm reading from both the stats command and process explorer.

I run dual Quad Xeon's 2.66Ghz

If you’re seeing the same CPU it possible that something is wrong with OS or something else is running. For example when I look at one of the graph screens in DUmeter it unlocks the timer in the OS and I see all the servers take a lot more CPU (30% range for a 32man server if I remember right)

I had this same issue with my 2nd server (before the one I have now windows 2003) I just ran the fpsboost like everyone else. One day I forgot to start it and noticed the CPU usage was almost nothing. After that I spoke with a few other admins and some didn't even run fpsboosters.

I would play with it turn it on look at the CPU and turn it off

one day I turned it on and when I turned it off nothing changed and from that day I was never able to go back to the locked windows timer. It's like it was broken and not till I switched to the setup that I have now was I able to go back to the stock setup. I have still played with it but it seems that something it a little more robust with the timer system in 2008.

Oh I also noticed the 100FPS and 1000FPS have no real change in the CPU..

I run on my box dual 2.8ghz, and on a full 32 man box it uses up around 2-3%.

But, I am pretty anal on making my stuff perfect, which is why I want it as optimized as possible for the network speed I have it at. I've got it so optimized that it has a low maxrate with no lag, whatsoever and low pings.

So you want less then 2-3% ?
