Can you modify CS:GO gun stats server side? Or is it always required for the client to change their own items_game? And if so, how do you host a server which only people with the same items_game can join?

Also: can you create custom guns (with custom models) without having the client download anything? And even make them appear on the buy menu? No, right? CSGO's buy menu is only editable clientside, is it not?

There's way to edit most of attributes of existing weapons by editing their CCSWeaponData/CEconItemDefinition loaded in memory. Yes, buy menu is totally client-side, so player won't see any stat changes here, but it will work in-game. There's also some way to duplicate item in ItemSchema, then spawn it with different classname/defindex, but I don't know anything else about that method. If this duplicate item has unique CEconItemDefinition and CCSWeaponData, then it can be used as base for custom weapons.

Sadly, even in big SM communities nobody is interested in server-side custom weapons in CS:GO, even with all that new information about econ entities. Nobody talks about that openly and I haven't seen private plugins that can do something like that.
