I am wondering if there is a way to optimize performance on a E5-2620 server.

I have 2 servers one is a 1230 and the other a 2620, both have identical setups and similar player loads. The 1230 is actually outperforming the 2620 by as much as 30 percent at times. Are there settings I can use to maximize the 2620 server? Is this just a setting issue?

Any help is appreciated immensely.

the raw performance of an 1230 core is much higher, as its clocked at 3.2ghz by default (3.6ghz with turbo) while the 2620 is only 2ghz (2.5ghz with turbo) and as srcds still doesnt utilise more than one core, thats the only thing that matters, thats why a desktop cpu (i7) clocked somewhat around 4ghz is much better for gameservers than any of these overpriced xeons. ofc if you want to have like 16 cores you would need xeon, but probably you reach your bandwith cap before you could utilise that many cores

2 GHz would definitely be pushing it for SRCDS' main thread (it does use multiple threads, but there is only 1 doing the heavy lifting).

Well ok, what about going the other way with cores from 4 down to 2 like say:
Intel Core i3-2120 - 3.30 GHz

VS
Intel Xeon Sandy Bridge E3-1230 - 3.20 GHz

???

well it would run less servers, even tho srcds doesnt really utilise more than 1 core, you can still run more instances on more cores, but if theres no setup fee and you could upgrade after a month i would say give it a shot
