Security Task Manager[/url]]"lsass.exe" is the Local Security Authentication Server. It verifies the validity of user logons to your PC/Server. It generates the process responsible for authenticating users for the Winlogon service. This process is performed by using authentication packages such as the default Msgina.dll. If authentication is successful, Lsass generates the user's access token, which is used to launch the initial shell. Other processes that the user initiates inherit this token. More info

Note: The lsass.exe file is located in the c:\windows\System32 folder. In other cases, lsass.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! Check this with Security Task Manager for free.

Virus with same name:
W32.Nimos.Worm - Symantec Corporation
W32.Sasser.E.Worm (Lsasss.exe) - McAfee
W32.HLLW.Lovgate.C@mm - Symantec Corporation

What is with people posting exe files in forums?

/me slaps Nick

Do a search on google for that filename next time, and you will see:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com...ent/10108.html

as the 3rd link.

Also, enable the built in firewall when you install XP, or set your computer up behind one, atleast till you update your OS fully. Best is to get a router and use it as a form of firewalling your computer from the internet.

  1. He did not post an exe, he posted an image of the error that the exe makes.
  2. /me slaps Wojjie for not knowing all the facts, and jumping to conclusions.

I apologize, the zip file name was misleading.
