Okay, I purchased this book;

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...747865&itm=111

Only one guy said it sucked, tons of other people said it was awesome. It was $9.95 - so I'm not out anything if it's bad. Any other books anyone can suggest are appriciated.

I'm also seeing a lot of PHP/PHP5/MySQL books all combined - can someone explain so I understand fully?

Thanks.

Nay, I think it's a great language.

I don't really have anything else useful to say, except I learned PHP from this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...679999-8207359

I learned php from www.php.net/docs was the link, iirc

PHP and some type of database are a good combo, and mysql seems to be the most widespread, so thats why you see books about it

The "in easy steps" books with the exception of C++ is a great series of books.

I first started with Quick Basic when I was 11 years old - it was a nice and simple programming language for n00bies, but you could write bigger stuff with it.
Then I started with C++ which I learned from book C:Step-by-Step from Waite&Prata.
Small C is a good language with good possibilities.
